I am a professional musician. My wife Cassandra is a primary school teacher. We have lived in the Rocks Millers Point area for twenty-five years. Both our children Georgia and Eddy Hughes grew up in the area, went to Lance Kindergarten and Fort Street Public. My wife also taught at Fort Street for a while.
We live in co-op housing. Yes, we are also being evicted from our family home. I fell in love with the area and its people the moment we moved into the area twenty-five years ago. I have
watched with shock and horror the grand heritage estate that is Millers Point slowly crumble into disrepair from the shear lack of maintenance by public Housing NSW.
And so now they want to evict an entire suburb. Evict this living, breathing, rich tapestry of humanity. Why? Because of their love of mammon. Yes, greed. It’s not right. It has to be stopped. If it’s not stopped, if there is not a public outcry, the living kinetic history of this unique community will be lost forever. And that will be bad for all of Sydney and Australia.
