The people in the area were more like a big family, everybody knew everybody, everybody helped everybody. If someone had an illness or a problem and they were not covered by worker’s compensation there would be raffles run in all the hotels and functions run in the hall, it was just like a big country community in the middle of town. In the many places that I have been during my life I have never met a group of people that were a community like them, it was a marvellous place to live.
